Mark and Connor have been on site installing a temporary #fishbarrier and #salvaging #native #fish from a small section of a #Canterbury drain, ahead of a culvert installation by GSL (Grounds and Services Limited) for site access. #Drains and #ditches, which may appear poor quality such as this, can hold reasonable #biodiversity and provide valuable #refuge for #nativefish.

Fish present in the drain included #Shortfin #eel (#Anguilla australis), Common Bully (#Gobiomorphus cotidianus) and Upland Bully (G. breviceps). All fish caught were identified, measured and immediately released downstream away from the works site. Fish data is quickly gathered and input into the national fish database.
