Here is the green water from Morningside Pond under the microscope. These are three video showing the green-hued microbes that give the pond water its color. In the first video are a few different colonies of green algae. The star-shaped ones are called Actinastrum. The other colonies, the ones with four cells sandwiched together are called Scenedesmus. In the second video is a single colony of Actinastrum. In the third video there is another species of green algae. It's also a colony. It is made up of many crescent shaped cells living stuck together in a heap. It is called Senastrum meaning "Moonstar".
