When I first started getting serious about underwater photography I was so excited to find frogfish. Here were these excellent subjects who would stay still whilst figured out settings and lighting! After a while however I realised that, for the same reasons, everyone else was shooting froggies too...How to create a memorable shot? I thought the 'yawning' photo was the way to stand out but then quickly realised that a frogfish will start to compulsively exhibit this behaviour when stressed. There are plenty of yawning frogfish shots out there which were achieved with tremendous patience from the photographer. On the other hand, you can never 100% prove that the animal wasn't stressed out, out so I erred away from those images. In the end I was out of ideas and stopped shooting them for lack of originality...but sometimes you've just got to forget about the photography and just enjoy a magnificent marine creature when you see it!
